TASTE OF THAILAND IN SURREY

It seems Thai food is a popular choice for restauranteurs in Surrey as two new eateries have recently opened their doors in the county.

Bringing a taste of South East Asia to the bosky streets of Bramley is Patrie, a traditional Thai grill restaurant with a refined twist.

 Patrie in Bramley

The concept of Patrie, the meaning of which comes from the French word for Homeland, was created by Patria Weerapan - a semi-finalist on Gordon Ramsay’s The F Word and winner of 'Best Local Thai' for her sister restaurant in Teddington.

Housed in a historic Grade II listed building on Bramley High Street, meals are developed and prepared by Patria herself, taking the dishes from her ancestors and artfully updating them into a fine dining experience.

Starters include Chargrilled Spicy Prawns with Lemongrass and Passion Fruit and Crispy Crab while mains on offer include Pan Roasted Crispy Sea Bass on Aromatic Green Vegetable Curry and Classic Indonesian Massaman Curry with whole Peanuts, Shallots and Tamarind.

Pan Roasted Crispy Sea Bass on Aromatic Green Vegetable Curry

An innovative conception is the Friends and Family Table Menu (£28.95 per person), which has been designed to bring people together, with a selection of dishes perfect for passing around the table.

There are also two private dining areas tucked away on the first floor for birthday parties or even wedding receptions.

Staff at The Queen Adelaide in Ewell

For  a more casual occasion, The Queen Adelaide in Ewell, which opened on Friday, fuses exotic Thai food with the classic British pub concept. The new pub and restaurant on, Kingston Road, has undergone a complete transformation .

In the Thai restaurant, customers are greeted by Thai staff in beautiful silk uniforms and given an authentic dining experience, while the pub is the very height of a British local, with a range of Cask Marque accredited real ales, a traditional food menu and a real sense of community.

A selection of Thai starters served at The Queen Adelaide in Ewell

At the helm is general manager Dean Harris-Eckett, who said: "Everyone here has a real passion for both elements of our offering – the traditional English pub and authentic Thai restaurant . Whatever customers decide to join us for we are sure they will have a fantastic time."

Stop wearing the wrong size bra, start feeling confident

The outfit you wear is only as good as the bra you wear underneath but many women still walk around wearing the wrong size bra.

With this in mind House of Fraser in Guildford is hosting a Chantelle fitting event this week, where women can get professionally fitted, receive a free gift on purchase and be in with a chance of winning a trip to Paris.

House of Fraser and Chantelle, which is one of the oldest French lingerie manufacturers with origins dating back to 1876, want their customers to understand the importance of getting fitted regularly and the impact of wearing the right size and style bra can have on their wardrobe.

The wrong bra can cause women to feel uncomfortable - many women comment that a proper bra fitting makes them feel more confident.

To help explain this, Chantelle fit experts will be on hand to do personalised fittings, work wonders on customers' silhouettes and answer lingerie queries.

The event takes place from Tuesday October 9 to Saturday October 13.

Surrey hairdresser takes inspiration from style bloggers

In fashion, timing is everything and with the information superhighway open 24/7 we all need to stay one step ahead of the game, which means taking inspiration from the street in real time – right here, right now.

In order to keep his forward-thinking styles bang up to date, Surrey hairdresser, Leonardo Rizzo, has come up with a collection for Indola (the brand he is global ambasador for) inspired by style bloggers.

"Of course Streetstyle blogs are nothing new - some of them have been going for 6 or 7 years -but with bloggers taking over where the 20th century cool-hunters left off, bloggers continue to inspire key looks every season from catwalk to red carpet filtering straight down to the high street," said Leonardo, who runs Sanrizz hair salon in North Street, Guildford.

Leornardo presented the five key looks of this Smart Streetstyle Collection at an event in London recently. They included Denim Folk, Urban Tribal, Graphic Pop, Andro Mono and this season’s hot Colour Clash.

He added: "For hair stylists the challenges are no different than for the high street – how to capture the key trends in a way that’s head-turning and wearable at the same time and when it comes to the Indola Smart Streetstyle Collection, that’s my job.

"It’s also my job to help interpret the key trends into looks that have evolved from last time - fashion takes time to change and a trend like colour blocking has been around for a while in fashion, but is definitely here to stay - for now. So we found a way to make this trend more creative, evolving it into something that feels bang up to date, while still referencing the original inspiration."

After six years running her online business, http://www.scandiliving.com/, Swedish-born founder Linda Swarbrick will officially open the doors of the new shop this summer.

The premises will mirror the light and airy feeling of Scandinavian living and will offer a selection of interiors products and gifts including cushions, bedding and fabric by Linum (pictured), modern home and kitchen accessories by Danish MENU, Normann Copenhagen and Stelton, dinnerware by Mateus and Hoganas and cool but functional rugs by Pappelina.

There will also be wallpaper by Ferm Living, Eco and Borastapeter, children’s room accessories by Ferm Living, Mairo and LEKA, glassware by Orrefors and Kosta Boda and painted furniture by Becky Cooper of Dalahome.

For those who not only want to shop but perhaps take a rest after walking near the Devil’s Punch Bowl, there will also be a coffee corner, serving tea, coffee and homemade Scandinavian cakes.

Scandi Living opens at Hindhead Galleries in Tilford Road on June 9th.

Beauty buy of the week

Fashionable professional haircare brand, label.m, has just launched Lab Remedy - its first range of bespoke, in-salon intensive treatments.

Regular colouring and styling leads to protein deficiencies within the hair structure, leading to visually damaged, fragile and weak hair. Specially formulated with Tri-Keravitaplex Complex (a blend of three vegan proteins), Lab Remedy treatments help to protect, nourish and repair hair to its optimal level of healthiness.

Label.m has produced a Lab Remedy for three different hair types (coloured, dry/damaged and dry/itchy) and each contain rice protein for added strength, volume and elasticity; potato protein to strengthen and promote hair growth; and pea protein for shine, gloss and lustre.

It's the perfect pick me up to add to your cut, colour or blow dry the next time you are at the salon.

The treatments are currently available at Enzorosario in Godalming at the special price of £8 (RRP £11.50) until the end of the summer.

French Connection launches homeware in Guildford

The Guildford branch of French Connection is one of just 10 of the fashion brand's stores, which will stock its new homeware collection.

Launched this month, the new range, is described by the brand as "bringing sophistication and sleekness to any home environment by introducing a clean fusion where minimal sits with rustic antique".

Mango Lamp £95

Although it seems FC is just the latest in a long list of High Street fashion labels to make the increasingly inevitable leap from clothes to homeware, this is in fact its second crack at the homeware whip.

Around 10 years ago the company launched homeware for the first time with a selection of bed linen and other soft furnishings but it was panned by critics and soon pulled from stores.
Breton Stripe Cushions £35-£45

Let's hope the new line, which has been designed with the help of Lorraine Brennan (who has previously designed for The Conran Shop) and includes soft furnishings, glassware, lighting, ceramics and a few choice furniture pieces, will be received more favourably than the last.

French Connection Home can be found at 67-68 North Street, Guildford.
